Free Pay Stub Generator FAQ

Does it handle YTD (year-to-date) totals for earnings and deductions?
Yes. Each earning and deduction line has both a Current period field and a YTD field. You enter both — the generator sums them into a YTD row at the bottom. This matters because employees often verify their final pay stub of the year against W-2 estimates: YTD federal tax should match Box 2, YTD Social Security should match Box 4, etc.
Does it include FICA, Medicare, and federal tax fields by default?
Yes. The Deductions section comes pre-populated with Federal Tax, State Tax, Social Security (FICA), and Medicare — the four standard W-2 employee withholdings in the US. You can add custom rows for 401(k), health insurance, garnishments, or any other deduction. The tool does not auto-calculate withholding amounts (use IRS withholding tables or your payroll software for that), but it formats them correctly with both Current and YTD totals.
Is there a limit on how many pay stubs I can create?
No limits whatsoever. Create as many pay stubs as you need — weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. There are no caps, no trial periods, and no features locked behind a paywall.
Will my pay stubs look professional without paying?
Yes. All templates are designed to professional standards. The PDF output is print-ready and indistinguishable from paid alternatives. No watermarks, no 'generated by' branding.
Can I create stubs for hourly workers with overtime?
Yes. Add an earning row of type 'Regular' (e.g. 80 hours × $25/hr = $2,000) and a second row of type 'Overtime' (e.g. 12 hours × $37.50/hr = $450 at 1.5× rate). Each row stores its own current-period and YTD totals. The PDF clearly separates regular vs overtime so workers and accountants can compare the hour-by-hour breakdown against time-clock or payroll records.
