What Makes a Good Invoice?

A well-made invoice does more than request payment — it reinforces your professionalism. Clear line items help clients understand exactly what they're paying for, reducing back-and-forth questions. A consistent invoice format with your logo builds brand recognition over time.

Payment terms matter too. "Due on Receipt" works for small, one-time jobs. For ongoing client relationships, Net 30 is the industry standard — it gives clients a reasonable window while keeping your cash flow predictable. InvoiceNeat lets you set terms with one click, and the due date calculates automatically.

Finally, always include a unique invoice number. Sequential numbering (INV-001, INV-002) makes it easy for both you and your client to reference specific invoices. InvoiceNeat auto-generates a unique number for each invoice, following the INV-YYYYMM-NNNN format.

Invoice Maker FAQ

How long does it take to make an invoice?
Under 2 minutes for your first invoice. If you save your default company info, subsequent invoices take under 1 minute — just enter the client details and line items.
What should I include on my invoice?
A professional invoice should include: your business name and contact info, client name and address, a unique invoice number, invoice date and due date, itemized list of services/products with quantities and rates, subtotal, any applicable tax or discounts, and total amount due.
Can I add my company logo?
Yes. Click 'Upload Logo' in the editor to add your logo. It appears on both the preview and the exported PDF. Supported formats: PNG, JPG, SVG (max 2MB).
What's the difference between an invoice, a quote, and a receipt?
An invoice is a request for payment sent before or after delivering goods/services. A quote (or estimate) is sent before work begins to propose pricing. A receipt is sent after payment is received as proof of transaction. InvoiceNeat currently supports invoice creation.
Can I save my invoices for later?
Your current invoice is automatically saved in your browser's local storage. You can also export invoices as JSON files to back up or transfer between devices. Use 'Import JSON' to restore a previously saved invoice.
Does InvoiceNeat calculate taxes automatically?
Yes. Enter your tax rate as a percentage, and the tax amount is calculated automatically on the subtotal (after any discounts). The total updates in real time as you make changes.
